what: 8th annual craig murphey fellowship fundraiser
when: sunday, oct. 12th
time: 5 pm – 10 pm
We are super excited to be hosting this year’s Craig Murphey Fellowship Fundraiser for the New York City Coalition Against Hunger. This 8th annual fundraising event combines some of our favorite things (drinking! prizes!) with a great cause, supporting what the magazine “The Nation” calls “one of the leading direct service and advocacy organizations on hunger and poverty in the nation.”
So come Sunday, we’ll be donating a portion of bar proceeds, plus all proceeds from a super rad raffle to NYCCAH. This non-profit group engages in direct action to bring food to hungry New Yorkers, and to advocate for programs that target the root causes of hunger in New York City and across the country (Did you know that every day, 1.4 million New Yorkers wake up not knowing where they’ll get their meals that day. One in five of them are children). For the past 7 years, with the help of people like you, the Craig Murphey Fellowship Fundraiser has raised more than $70,000 for NYCCAH and the Craig Murphey Fellowship Program.
As in years past, $5 gets you a raffle ticket with a chance at prizes from the likes of The Ace Hotel (a 2 night stay!), Etsy, Vice Magazine and more. All raffle proceeds will directly fund the salary of this year’s Craig Murphey Fellow, who continues the outstanding work of Craig Murphey, a young community organizer who worked tirelessly to help bring nutritious food to low-income New Yorkers. After Craig lost his life in a bicycle accident seven years ago, NYCCAH created the fellowship program in his honor to help carry on his legacy of anti-hunger advocacy.
