Are you ready to do it again? We’re Medieval carousing again, this year with a healthy dose of Southern Pentecostal flair. We’ve got music all day, from country tunes to blues to gospel; shrimp po’ boys and collard greens to eat; the annual reading of Le Morte d’Arthur; baptism by whiskey; and everyone’s favorite, sword fighting and sword fighting lessons from the NYC Longsword Fencing Club. Who shall we crown the 3rd knight of The Drink in 2013? Sword fighting is a late one this year. Starts at 8 pm!

May the flames of heaven reign down upon our heads, may our tongues be loose and inspired, and may our Pentecostal oath and bond be strengthened for yet another year.

What: Queen’s Day, a Dutch celebration with Denizen Rum

Queen’s Day. A day when the notoriously free Dutch let loose across the country in celebration of their queen, Queen Beatrix. We decided to join forces with one of our favorite white rums, Denizen, and come up with our own Brooklyn-ized version of Queen’s Day.

We’ll have music all day from Juniper Rising and friends, $3 glasses of Denizen Rum punch (including a frothy, light new punch based on the traditional Dutch booze-soaked apricots and raisins and topped with sparkling wine, as well as some old favorites) and Dutch food specials.

Come out in your best orange (the Dutch’s favorite color) and enjoy your Sunday.

We’re super excited to welcome Melody for her first gig at The Drink. You know we love some bluegrass tunes, and she’s such a pro. For this show she’ll be playing with Elio Schiavo, front man for the Six Deadly Venoms. Expect a lot of pretty harmony singing, friends.

Melody has been playing violin since the age of five and is classically trained in both violin and voice. She fell in love with bluegrass/old time music around 7 years ago and has been raising a ruckus in the NYC area ever since, branching out into all manner of folk genres.

In addition to regularly playing at regional favorites like The Jalopy Theater, The Living Room, Rodeo Bar, Rockwood Music Hall, and Philly’s Tin Angel and World Café Live, Melody has gotten to rock out at places like the top of Rockefeller Center and the renowned Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Festival in San Francisco. She has also placed in the lauded Galax Fiddlers’ Convention bluegrass fiddle contest.

This Sunday for St. Patrick’s Day, we’re serving up colcannon, sausages, Clontarf, stout, none of the green beer, and none of puking (*fingers crossed!). Come celebrate like an adult: by getting pleasantly drunk and full, telling the same story at least twice and leaving without saying goodbye.

Produced in Spain’s autonomous Azurius region, this traditional cider is made from hand picked apples and is robust and dry with a light effervescence. We love it, and are proud to be one of only 10 locations in New York with it on tap.

We’ll be celebrating with a launch on Thursday, along with complimentary boquerones tapas and importer Anthony Belliveau-Flores of Rowan Imports, who brought us this super special treat. He has the best stories of all-cider bars in Spain and killer technique on the escandiador style high pour.

This single keg only lasts as long as it takes for you to drink it, so don’t miss out.

WHAT: LAUNCH PARTY FOR SINGLECUT BEERSMITHS

We are thrilled to host a launch party for our friends at the brand new New York brewery, SingleCut Beersmiths. This Astoria-based hop house owned by  Rich Buceta (formerly of Greenpoint Beer Works) first opened its doors last December. He’s launching his beers with a takeover of all five of our taps, accompanied by live traditional Appalachian old-timey tunes.

We’ll be pouring their:

• Billy 18 Watt IPA

Did you guys know the National Reserve is kind of a party band now? They got so many people up dancing on tables on Halloween at The Drink that they’re now doing that blues-y party thing all the time. So they’ll be helping us ring in the New Year with plenty of dancing, followed by a special guest rock n roll DJ.

It’s no secret that we love Christmas, and this is one of our favorite ways we celebrate. For the 3rd year in a row, owner Adam Collison’s wonderful mom Judy will be making the trip from Baltimore to New York to lead us in Christmas carols.

This is pretty much an exact recreation of an annual Collison family tradition, complete with loud, red-faced, off-key singing; homemade cookies; and eggnog.

We’ve got songbooks for those of you who can’t remember the lyrics, and plenty of Baltimorian holiday cheer to spare.
